I believe the greatest responsibility of a president is to guide TANGE’s growth. To that end, it is paramount that we continue to pursue Essential Design—this is what makes TANGE unique. To achieve this, I approach each project from various scales rather than from a short-sighted perspective. For example, from the urban scale, I consider the broader city context. Then, from the architectural scale, I examine what kind of design best fits the character of the region. Moreover, from the human scale, I ask how people will embrace and interact with the space. It is by integrating these diverse and multidimensional perspectives that we can make compelling proposals.

Such compelling architecture builds trust with clients, which in turn drives new business opportunities and project development. At the same time, the creative process itself fosters the growth of our staff. As one of the leaders of TANGE, I am committed to advancing projects that embody new value and vision.

社長にとって最大の仕事は、TANGEの成長を導くことだと考えています。必要不可欠になってくるのが「TANGEらしさ」を創出する「そこにあるべき建築」を創り続けていくことです。そのために私は、プロジェクトの対象である建築を近視眼的のみならず、いろいろな尺度から見るようにしています。たとえば、それはアーバンスケールという視点。都市の状況から設計することです。そして、アーキテクチャースケール。その地域にはどんなデザインがふさわしいかという視点。さらに、ヒューマンスケール、人々にどうすれば受け入れられるか。このような多様で多次元的な視点を持つことで、説得力のある提案ができると思っています。「そこにあるべき」との説得力ある建築は、クライアントとの信頼関係を醸成し、次の営業戦略（新規プロジェクト開拓）にもつながります。加えて、その制作プロセスを通してスタッフの成長も果たせます。TANGEを率いる責任者のひとりとして、これからも新たな価値を秘めたプロジェクトの推進を目指してまいります。

Architecture is a significant investment. A building may stand for 30 or even 50 years before it is rebuilt—and even then, it may not be me who oversees its renewal. That is why I view architecture as ichigo-ichie—a once-in-a-lifetime encounter. For me, what matters most is maintaining an unwavering belief in crafting each project with care and integrity. Architecture is essential to human life—it embodies our intelligence, our ideals, and our culture. At the same time, it must adapt gracefully to changes that come with the passage of years.

My vision is that every staff member works with the conviction of an architect, building “Team TANGE” together with project members and external collaborators to bring each project to life. Combined with the experience and expertise we have cultivated through projects around the world, this approach allows us to deliver solutions that no one else can. By continuing this cycle, we create the path forward for TANGE’s future.

建築は高価なもので、建て替えるとなると30年とか50年先という場合もよくあります。建て替えの際も自分が担当できるとは限りません。私は、建築は「一期一会」であると考えています。大切にしたいのは「一つひとつの建築を丁寧につくる」という揺るぎない信念・コンセプトを持ち続けるということです。建築は人間生活においてなくてはならないものであり、人間の知性やイデオロギーを具現化するものです。さらに、年を経るごとに生じる変化にも対応しなければなりません。スタッフ一人ひとりが建築家としての信念をもち、プロジェクトメンバーや外部スタッフの方々と「チームTANGE」を築きながら共にプロジェクトの実現を目指す、これが私の理想と考えるスタイルです。ここに世界中のプロジェクトで培ってきた経験・ノウハウを加えると、他にはない独自の答えとなるわけです。それを繰り返し続けていく、TANGEの未来はここにあると考えます。
